Louisville football got a nice layup against Murray State in Week 5 and here’s what we learned from the Cardinals’ blowout win.

Following a 55-10 win over Murray State, Louisville football is gaining confidence heading into a Week 6 contest against NC State. The Wolfpack have been exceeding expectations this season and a blowout win over Murray State will only give this team confidence heading into the ACC showdown.

Lamar Jackson had himself a game as he only helped his Heisman campaign. It will be mighty difficult to repeat as college football’s Heisman Trophy winner, but at this point in the season, he has the Cardinals looking good.

Here’s what we learned from Louisville’s big win over the Racers of Murray State.

3. Louisville’s defense is elite

No surprise here, but Louisville’s defense is elite and it proved its dominance again on Saturday afternoon against a lowly Murray State offense. Sure, Murray State is an FCS squad, but Louisville’s defense looked about as good as it has all season long.

Although Louisville didn’t force any turnovers of the Racers, the Cardinals held Murray State to just 80 total yards.

The Cardinals’ defense has some of the best talent in the ACC and it needed a boost of confidence against Murray State. This was the perfect confidence-booster heading deeper into ACC play and this gives the Cardinals something to build on when they face NC State next week on the road.

Will the defense be able to repeat this effort against Ryan Finley and Jaylen Samuels? Time will tell, but if it looks anything like it did on Saturday, it will be just fine.
