SEC football conference play is just about underway for all 14 schools. Here’s a look at who should be on upset alert in Week 5.
SEC football hasn’t seen a whole lot of upsets, but there have been mishaps. The No. 21 Florida Gators escaped once again with a last-second victory against the Kentucky Wildcats, 27-26. The Wildcats left a Gators player wide-open at the line to catch the game-winning score as time expired.
The Vanderbilt Commodores bit off more than they could chew when they hosted the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide to open up SEC play. Alabama won 59-0, putting up 496 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns in the game.
The 11th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs didn’t leave much to chance last week however when they made easy work of Mississippi State, 31-3. The 13th-ranked Auburn Tigers didn’t have a difficult time with the Missouri Tigers either, winning 51-14 on the road.
Georgia didn’t let Mississippi State’s upset victory over the LSU Tigers deter their chances at a perfect season. They’re faring much better under Year 2 of head coach Kirby Smart.
Still, five teams remain perfect in SEC play despite the short amount of games being played. As the conference schedule begins to ramp up, teams will be on upset alert as it’s never a dull moment for the most part when SEC teams meet.
