Texas A&M football can finally make some noise in the SEC West behind a freshman quarterback in Kellen Mond, after a win over South Carolina.

Texas A&M football is getting on the right track after the embarrassing comeback loss they gave up to the UCLA Bruins in Week 1. However, things have steadily improved since then. They had a chance to increase the winning streak to four games against the South Carolina Gamecocks, and they did just that.

Both of these teams really needed a victory in Week 5. South Carolina has not been the same team they showed in Week 1 since they defeated the NC State Wolfpack. A 10-point loss to the Kentucky Wildcats was a really bad look for the Gamecocks.

Texas A&M has been really good since the win over the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin Cajuns in the third game of the year. Defeating the Arkansas Razorbacks in Week 4 was, by far, the biggest win of the season so far for the Aggies. Defensive back Armani Watts picked off a pass from Arkansas quarterback Austin Allen to seal the victory in overtime.

The Aggies escaped this game with a 24-17 victory since the Gamecocks could not convert on the final drive. Texas A&M’s ground attack led the way with 239 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Nearly 100 of those rushing yards came from Kellen Mond.

For South Carolina, they need to take every opportunity they can get in SEC play moving forward. With how good the Georgia Bulldogs and Florida Gators looked this week, the Gamecocks are facing an uphill battle in the SEC East.

Now, let’s take a look at three takeaways from Texas A&M’s win over South Carolina.
