Texas A&M Football: 3 takeaways from win over South Carolina
3. Kellen Mond still has some growing pains
Ever since the injury to Week 1 starting quarterback Nick Starkel, true freshman Kellen Mond has been the guy for the Texas A&M offense. Mond has steadily improved over the past few weeks. And, as Mond has improved, so have the Aggies.
Texas A&M is the type of team that goes as the quarterback goes. Whenever the play behind center is not up to par, the Aggies will struggle. The future with a quarterback like Mond is very bright but there’s going to be troubles along the way.
The leading rusher for Texas A&M against South Carolina was Mond. He rushed for more yards than starting running back Trayveon Williams. Most of the ball movement for the Aggies came from rushes from Mond or Williams, especially in the second half.
Limiting turnovers is a huge thing for Mond and he has been able to keep them down over the past few weeks. Mond tossed only two picks in the last three weeks. They can ill afford to turn the ball over in SEC play in any game and Mond did a good job of that against the Gamecocks.
