Texas Football: Iowa State win reveals concerns for Longhorns

4. The defense isn’t really all it’s cracked up to be

The Texas defense was the talk of the town to start the season. The unit was supposed to be the best in the conference and make Texas a real contender this season. Although, they haven’t shown much of anything really.

Sure, they held Iowa State to a total of 10 rushing yards. And kudos to them for that. But, they gave up 256 yards in the air and a touchdown. So, it’s not as if they shut the Cyclones down completely. Remember, this is the team that gave up 51 to Maryland and 27 to a USC team who just dropped a game to Washington State.

Yes, they came up big with some stops and turnovers against Iowa State, like the one shown above. However, the real question is how will they fare against teams who actually have their offense figured out- namely the Sooners and the Horned Frogs.

Only time will tell, but I’m not yet sold on this unit for the season. It seems that they have a long way to go before Texas is really “back.”
