5. Texas isn’t a contender, not yet

I know I have been basically trashing the Longhorns this entire article, but there is a silver lining for this team. It may not come this season, but it’s there. This team has the talent and the ability to be a serious contender, we saw that against USC a week ago. However, they are simply not ready to work as a full team enough to find themselves back at the top of the top.

This tends to happen when a new coach inherits a program, it takes a few seasons to really get what they want in the program going. Herman has to set his own ground rules, his own way of doing things and that could be a big change for the Longhorns. As a result, they are struggling to put it all together this season.

Need a prime example? Watch the clip below.

When the running game seemed to be working like a charm and Warren had already found the end zone once, Texas deviates from their strengths causing a serious issue on the field. This turnover could have been prevented with better blocking and more awareness around the ball, but that comes with time and practice.

It’s plays like this and wins like this one that show us that Texas just isn’t ready and as a result may find themselves in the bottom quarter of the Big 12 and on the outside looking in come post season.
