1. Pat Fitzgerald is the most underrated head coach in the Big 10

Much like Bill Snyder with Kansas State, Gary Patterson with TCU, Mark Dantonio with Michigan State, Justin Fuente with Virginia Tech, etc. Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald does not get all the credit he deserves.

Fitzgerald took a Northwestern football program that was mediocre at best before he was head coach and turned it into a perennial contender in the Big Ten West. Northwestern is also the type of team that can upset any team on any given weekend.

Wisconsin is consistently one of the best football programs in the Big TEn and Fitzgerald has helped the Wildcats win half of the matchups between these two squads over the past 12 meetings.

The Big 10 is a conference made up of big name coaches like Ohio State’s Urban Meyer, Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh, and Penn State’s James Franklin. Coaches like Fitzgerald slip under the radar and he likely thrives in that role.
