3. Josh Jackson still has freshman problems

One of the best freshmen in the country is considered to be Virginia Tech’s redshirt freshman quarterback Josh Jackson. He put up some massive stats in the Hokies’ win over the East Carolina Pirates last week.

However, Jackson’s production screeched to a halt in Week 5. Jackson tossed one touchdown and two picks with 251 passing yards. He only added another 13 yards on nine carries on the ground. This was really a performance that brought Jackson back to earth.

A concerning trend for the Hokies is the fact that they played Clemson closer in the ACC Championship Game in 2016 than they did this weekend. This looked like an improved Virginia Tech squad that could get closer, especially at home.

The supporting cast that Jackson has around him gives mixed results. Star wide receiver Cam Phillips is a great target but there’s not much else. Starting running back Travon McMillian rushed for only 29 yards on six carries. Sometimes, it can look like Jackson is alone on offense out there.
