Ohio State football handled Rutgers on Saturday night with no problem. Here are three things we learned from the shellacking.

The No. 11 Ohio State Buckeyes are fresh off handling Army last week and they traveled to Rutgers for their second Big Ten contest of the season. Rutgers has been struggling and against Ohio State nothing changed as they were defeated 56-0.

Ohio State is now 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the Big Ten and Rutgers dropped to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the Big Ten.

Check out my three takeaways from the Buckeyes dominating win.

3. Barrett plays well against lower competition

Senior quarterback J.T. Barrett had his third strong outing, but like his other strong outings they are coming against subpar competition. If the Buckeyes are going to be a threat for the Big Ten title they need Barrett to play sharp against top tier teams or the Clemson and Oklahoma games will repeat themselves. Enough with the digs now time to highlight great game the senior had.

Barrett was 14-for-22 passing for 275 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for 89 yards on 10 carries. Barrett combined for 364 yards Saturday, not a bad game at all. His three touchdowns came from distances of 70, 39 and 23 yards. As much as the media talked about the receiving core the more I get to see them, the more it is on Barrett to give those young guys a chance to make plays.

Barrett has to get the ball out his hand fast and trust his reads because if these guys (Parris Campbell, Johnnie Dixon and crew) can get their hands on the ball they can make plays. Hopefully this game has built the seniors confidence up.
