The San Diego Aztecs football team are 5-0 this season after a back-and-forth battle with the Northern Illinois Huskies. San Diego State is 5-0 for the first time since the 1975 season. Their defense stopped the Huskies on back-to-back drives in order to end the game with a victory.
The Aztecs and Huskies played one of those under-the-radar games that kept fans glued to the screen for most of the contest. San Diego State opened the game with a 96-yard kickoff return to open the game. The Huskies responded right back with a score of their own and kept it close throughout.
San Diego State’s defense stepped up in a big way to pull out the victory. They had interceptions on back-to-back possessions to close things out in the end. So far, the Aztecs have defeated the Arizona State Sun Devils and Stanford Cardinal in the Pac-12 and enter conference play as early favorites to win it all.
The Northern Illinois Huskies don’t have much to hang their head about either. They’re currently 2-2 but should get some close conference victories on the back end.
