It was another close call, but Texas A&M football found a way against South Carolina to stay undefeated in conference play.

Texas A&M needed yet another comeback to beat the Gamecocks on Saturday night. There were bright spots and some not so bright spots in the victory. The Aggie offense took an entire quarter to really get going and when it did, it only scored once the entire first half.

It turned out that a strong fourth quarter would be enough for the Aggies to find a win. However, play like that will not give them an upset win over the Crimson Tide on Saturday night. From what we have seen, this Aggie team can hang in with just about anyone — in the fourth quarter.

But, playing a single quarter well won’t get you out alive against Alabama this season. Ask Vanderbilt and Ole Miss, who were just bullied by the Tide the last two weeks.

As center Erik McCoy said, the atmosphere at Kyle Field on Saturday was simply electric. When it came down to the fourth quarter, especially at the time that Cameron Buckley found himself ejected for a questionable targeting call — the 12th Man was ready to play. The effect of the crowd noise was seen on both sides of the ball as it threw South Carolina off their game and pumped the Aggies up.

This team logged seven sacks against South Carolina, five coming in the dominant fourth quarter. However, it’s going to take way more than sacks to stop the rolling Tide. Kellen Mond will need to take a giant leap forward and the defense will have to play all four quarters.

Until then, however, here are my five overreactions from Saturday night’s win against the Gamecocks.
