Virginia Tech football didn’t take too much of a hit in the AP poll, but here are five overreactions to consider after their home loss to No. 2 Clemson.

The Virginia Tech Hokies didn’t play awful against the Clemson Tigers, but they didn’t play great either. They lost 31-17 but there’s still a long way to go and plenty of football to be played.

Fans may be disappointed by the Hokies effort but the Tigers are the difference between a top-ranked team and the 21st-ranked team (West Virginia). The Hokies got all they could handle and survived against the Mountaineers, but nothing could have prepared them for what Clemson brought to the table.

The Hokies and Tigers put up nearly identical stats but the difference came in the turnovers. Virginia Tech had three turnovers while Clemson had none. Clemson was 6-of-16 on third downs while Virginia Tech was 4-of-15 on third downs.

The front-end of the schedule may have spoiled us but it was no secret our offense needed work and this game simply showed that. The Hokies finally got things going in the fourth quarter, but it was too little too late as Clemson cruised to victory.

Here are five overreactions from Week 5 that need to be addressed.
