Virginia Tech Football: 5 overreactions from Week 5 loss to Clemson
4. The Hokies defense needs to work on their tackling
The Virginia Tech Hokies had a heck of a time trying to slow down Kelly Bryant and the Tigers running game. Bryant finished the game with 94 rushing yards on 13 carries on 4.9 yards per carry. He also finished with 186 passing yards and a passing touchdown.
The Hokies don’t need to work on their tackling so much as the ACC should now recognize that Bryant is a hell of a quarterback but also hard to bring down on the run.
Bryant is 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds and it showed against one of the top defenses in the country as he ran over, threw and around the Virginia Tech defense.
I wouldn’t say the defense was unprepared but Bryant is a very durable runner, much moreso than Deshaun Watson and it showed against the Hokies.
Bryant didn’t have to use his arm much in the game as the Hokies pressue was kept at-bay all-game long. Film should tell the story though.
Missed tackling was a result of fatigue rather than poor overall tackling. The defense has done a good job up until this point in containing the run, but again, none of those teams were ranked second in the nation.
