1. The Hokies have no running game

The Virginia Tech Hokies were held to 90 rushing yards and wide receiver Sean Savoy scored the lone rushing touchdown for them in the game.

The Hokies don’t have zero running game but they need to find a better rotation of running backs going forward. Running back Coleman Fox led the way in rushing yards with 39 yards, mostly in mop-up duty but his production makes you wonder why he wasn’t inserted into the game earlier.

After all, the Hokies were already missing running back Steven Peoples. Peoples scored three times the week before against Old Dominion and his presence was certainly missed in the game.

The team tried to run with other players but it just simply wasn’t a good idea. Wide receiver C.J. Carroll finished with three rushes for a total of minus-8 yards. Travon McMillian had six rushes for 29 rushing yards but also had a key fumble in the game.

Without a feature back, the Virginia Tech Hokies have some flexibility in the backfield, but it’s to them to use to their advantage.

A lot of the run plays the Hokies ran went straight up the middle with no misdirection or mystery to who the ballcarrier was. It’s hard to use power out of the backfield considering the biggest rusher in the quarterback.

It’s hard to use power out of the backfield considering the biggest rusher in the quarterback. The end around and bubble screen should be scrapped from our playbook immediately.

The Clemson game opened some eyes hopefully as the Hokies will need balance on offense if they want to get back to their winning ways.
