There’s Alabama, Georgia and everyone else. The other 12 teams make accurate power rankings the most difficult, but here’s how SEC football looks after Week 6.
The SEC looks to already be settled after dominating performances by Georgia and Alabama. Meanwhile Auburn seems to be positioning themselves as a possible roadblock for the Tide. Find out where the rest of the SEC sits in this weeks edition of power rankings.
It was pretty much a sure thing that Alabama was going to win this week; but I think Nick Saban might have taken some recent frustrations with Ole Miss out in that game. The Crimson Tide pummeled the Rebels by a score of 66-3. Saban effectively wanted to put his demons with Ole Miss to bed and he did that plus some.
Georgia’s win might have been more surprising, in that no one expected them to roll into Knoxville and shut out the Vols. Despite how the rest of the season goes for Tennessee, that 41-0 loss might have been the final nail in the coffin for head coach Butch Jones. Elsewhere in the SEC, Auburn looked great against Mississippi State. The Tigers just might actually be capable of going toe to toe with Alabama in the Iron Bowl this year. My only worry is that the performance might be more reflective of a Mississippi State defense that isn’t as good as some thought.
That said, the Auburn defense is terrific. I’ve said that before, but like Georgia, they made Nick Fitzgerald irrelevant in the game. That is not an easy thing to do. How Auburn looks next week against Ole Miss will be important. They have to come out and play, not waltz their way through or the heat will be back on for Gus Malzahn.
We begin our power rankings for Week 6 with the perennial last team, Missouri.
