The college football season is entering Week 6 and here’s what the New Year’s Six bowl projections looks like.

Hello October and hello insanity. Last Friday night in Pullman, Wash., we saw the USC Trojans go down and as Friday became Saturday, USC fell out of the playoff and now there is an open spot. Washington and Penn State are two teams that could fall into the open playoff spot but only one can move in.

The ACC saw another change with it’s Orange Bowl projection and after this coming week, there may be more if the ACC decides to go crazy for the third week in a row.

Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic

Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic: USC (at-large) vs. Georgia (at-large)
Where: AT&T Stadium (Dallas, Texas)
When: Dec. 29 at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN
Last week’s projection: Ohio State vs. Georgia

Sure one loss doesn’t sink a season but if you’re USC and you’ve joined a the small amount of teams who’ve lost one game in the early season. The Trojans have now slipped to the Cotton Bowl and while that may not be a bad thing they don’t control their collective fate, if USC wants to get back into the playoff, they will need help from the plethora of undefeated teams. One of those teams they’re playing in this week’s projection, Georgia.

The Bulldogs walk into October as one of the surprise teams that we didn’t know could be undefeated at this point in the season. The Bulldogs defeated Tennessee this past week and with teams sitting ahead of them like Oklahoma, Penn State and Washington playing tougher games over the next few weeks, Georgia can easily advance out of this spot just like USC.

Week 6 Impact: It’s an easy week for both USC and Georgia. The Trojans play Oregon State and Georgia travels to Vanderbilt who’s reeling from two losses in a row. While these two should win this week, do not be shocked if either one or both move out of this spot going into week six.
