With conference play in full force, there are a few college football teams with high hopes to pull off an upset in Week 6

College football has closed the books on an exciting September and now turns its focus to October. With several interesting games on tap this week, let us take a look at some teams that should be on upset alert.

In Week 5, I only managed to call one upset. Washington State pulled it off against USC. No need to discuss the other picks as they were not close. Can’t pick them all, but it sure is fun to try.

There are several games this week with close betting odds, provided by Sportsbook. For our purposes, we will still consider them upsets. There is even a team that is ranked, at home and still an underdog. So in this case, their opponent will be on upset alert. With all of that said, let’s get to the picks this week.

This game is one of the more interesting games on this weekend’s slates and also the largest spread for this week’s upset picks. TCU is a 13-point favorite over the visiting Mountaineers.

After an opening week loss against Virginia Tech, West Virginia has rattled off three straight victories over fairly easy competition. They are second in the nation in scoring with 48.8 points per game. Quarterback Will Grier has been solid with a 65 completion percentage and throwing 13 touchdown passes to only three interceptions. Running back Justin Crawford is also a force, rushing for 451 yards and 6 touchdowns thus far.

TCU is coming off a bye week after their big win over Oklahoma State two weeks ago. The Frogs are 4-0 and are looking to add to their playoff resume with a victory over West Virginia. The Frogs are a well balanced team that the Mountaineers may have trouble containing.

One stat stuck out to me about this game. It has not been home sweet home for TCU as they have lost five out of their last eight home games. West Virginia beat the Frogs last year and can go toe to toe with them offensively. In a shootout, it is any team’s game and it could be the Mountaineers that leave Fort Worth victors.
