On the first weekend of October, there isn’t a single contest that pits a Group of Five school against a Power Five opponent. After watching teams like San Diego State and South Florida take down major-conference foes and build New Year’s Six resumes, league play has eliminated such possibilities for all mid-majors this week.
Instead, what we have in Week 6 are a bunch of games heavy on home favorites. Conference play is a time for separating the contenders from the pretenders in the various Group of Five races. This week is no different, as some really good teams will head on the road in hopes of pulling off an upset and taking charge in conference play.
Upsets come in all shapes and sizes. We aren’t going to get a result like Troy toppling LSU every week.
