The Big Ten has its main focus on Michigan football against the Michigan State Spartans in Ann Arbor with College Football Playoff hopes on the line.

No. 7 Michigan football faces its toughest test of the season since the season opener against the No. 21 Florida Gators. The Michigan State Spartans have only one loss, which is to one of the best one-loss teams in college football in the No. 21 Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

This is a much improved Michigan State football team from a season ago. Head coach Mark Dantonio is doing another great job in having a big turnaround year. The coaching matchup between Dantonio and Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh is one thing to watch in this game.

Last year, Michigan and Michigan State finished with a 32-23 victory for the Wolverines. However, it was one of a number of close games that Michigan played in when they should have won by a bigger margin. That trend seems to be continuing so far this year.

Michigan senior quarterback Wilton Speight was benched in the Purdue game last week. Former Houston transfer quarterback John O’Korn got the start in a 28-10 win over the Boilermakers. Brandon Peters also took some snaps.

Michigan State is more set at the quarterback position with dual threat Brian Lewerke leading the way. Lewerke played mistake free football without turning the ball over even once last week against the Iowa Hawkeyes.

The Wolverines and Spartans have only one loss between both teams. And, that one loss came against a quality top 25 opponent. Unlike last year, this matchup does have some significance as to how the Big Ten East will ultimately play out.

Now, let’s take a look at three bold predictions for the Michigan Wolverines vs. Michigan State Spartans in Week 6.
