Ohio State Football: 3 bold predictions vs. Maryland in Week 6
1. J.T. Barrett throws for 350 yards for the first time in his career
In Ohio State’s Week 5 victory over Rutgers, J.T. Barrett took another step towards solidifying his place in Buckeyes’ history.
In his 41st game as a Buckeye, Barrett became Ohio State’s all-time leading passer, with 7,622 total yards through the air, and also became the first player in the program’s storied history to record 10,000 all-purpose yards in their career.
But one thing Barret has yet to do in his highly decorated career in Columbus is record a game with 350 or more yards through the air.
A stat that could surely change against the Terrapins’ in Week 6.
Barrett has been off to one of the best starts of his college career in 2017, with 1,241 passing yards on only 90 completions and an outstanding 13-1 touchdown-to-interception ratio, but his own success has actually held him back in recent weeks.
In the Buckeyes’ Week 4 and Week 5 games, against UNLV and Rutgers, respectively, Barrett was pulled from the games after scoring eight unanswered touchdowns, and had to watch from the sidelines as his fellow quarterbacks Dwayne Haskins and Joe Burrow closed out the games that he put away.
This shouldn’t be a problem in Week 6, as Barrett should get a full games worth of action against a conference foe.
Maryland’s offense has been on a roll this season, and has averaged almost 40 points per game so far this season. Their ability to attack teams both through the air and on the ground, has been impressive, and has helped to coverup the team’s 93rd-ranked passing defense.
Simply put, teams have been able to throw on Maryland, and Urban Meyer’s opportunistic offense could have a field day in Week 6.
With a full game of action and a potential shootout on the horizon, this could be the game where Barrett finally throws for more than 350 yards and solidifies his place as the best quarterback in Ohio State history.
