5. Ole Miss offense breaks out of slump

This isn’t the boldest of bold predictions (we’ll get there) but it is a necessary prediction if Ole Miss is going to be competitive in October. The offense has all be been absent since around midway through the Cal game. Even with a bye week to prepare for Alabama, Ole Miss had no answers on offense.

The talent is there, they just have to put things together and do what they did in first two games of the season. Obviously the talent level of South Alabama and UT-Martin are different from SEC competition but this offense is more than capable of putting up points against their SEC opponents.

The reason this is a bold prediction is because I need to see it to believe it. Shea Patterson is a great quarterback. Young, but great and he has the skills to lead this offense to more than it has achieved lately. Other than Auburn and Vanderbilt, the defensive competition the Rebels face will allow for their offense to be more effective. But even when they do face good defensive teams this month, the Rebels will have to take advantage of every opportunity they get.

Offensive line play will have to improve more, especially in the pass protection department. It was a good sign to see Ole Miss move the ball on the ground against Alabama, so improvement is happening. Protecting Patterson has to be the number one goal. In short, October will be the month the Rebel offense resurfaces and won’t look back.
