2. Josh Rosen will challenge David Klingler’s passing record

Through his first five games, NFL-hopeful Josh Rosen has lived up to the hype as he posts one huge game after another. With video-game numbers, Rosen is lapping the field and could have even bigger games in store.

Rosen was the first player to top 2000 passing yards on the season, and he is the only player at the moment who is averaging more than 400 yards per game through the air. The UCLA quarterback isn’t just breaking that mark, either, he has shattered it with an average of 427 yards per outing. Rosen also leads the nation with 17 passing touchdowns.

That 427 mark is critical, as he is within reach of a long-standing FBS record. In 1990, Houston’s David Klingler took the college football world by storm. Klingler threw for over 5000 yards in an 11-game season, averaging 467.3 yards per game in the process. It is a mark that has stood safe for more than a quarter century, even as passing offenses have become more sophisticated and prolific around the country.

This year that mark could finally topple. Rosen is going to put up huge numbers in October to come in range of Klingler’s record. As UCLA leans heavily on its quarterback to generate offense, he will respond with three straight 400-yard games and pull over 450 yards per game for his season average.
