Georgia football, following in the footsteps of Alabama a few weeks ago, handed Vanderbilt a big loss. Here’s what we learned from the Bulldogs’ Week 6 win.
Fresh off a suffocating 41-0 win over Tennessee that all-but cost Butch Jones his job, the Georgia Bulldogs walked into Vanderbilt Stadium winners of 5-straight. The offense is good, the defense is great and the Bulldogs look the part of a Top-5 team.
The Commodores started off the season 3-0 with a win over No. 18 Kansas State at home. That hot start had Vandy within a few votes of the Top 25 as they stared down a massive home game against Alabama. The Tide wiped the floor with Vanderbilt, winning a resounding 59-0.
It was Georgia that took care of business on Saturday. Vanderbilt was able to pull the deficit to 21-7 on a Ralph Webb touchdown run late in the second quarter, but after that it was all Georgia. The Bulldogs would go on to outscore Vanderbilt 24-7 for the rest of duration to walk away with an easy 45-14 victory.
Here are three things we learned from the comfortable Georgia victory over Vanderbilt in Week 6.
1. Vanderbilt is improved, not elite, and that’s okay
The Alabama slaughted and the Dores loss to Florida on the road last weekend made it hard to expect much from them against Georgia this week. As much progress as head coach Derek Mason has made to this point, there is still work to be done. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
Vanderbilt has made it through a brutal opening stretch and does not have a game remaining against a team that is currently ranked in the AP Top 25. That sets up well for a strong finish that will make fans forget a rough awakening early on in the season.
