2. It doesn’t matter who plays quarterback for Georgia
Coming into their Week 6 game against Vanderbilt, the Georgia defense was one of three units in the country allowing less than 10 points per game. The other two? Alabama and Penn State. That’s good company to keep.
But it’s not just the Georgia defense that has impressed. The Dawgs have three running backs who are capable of carving up just about any defense. Nick Chubb, Sony Michel and D’Andre Swift pack a three-pronged punch that can only be matched by the likes of Alabama.
On Saturday those two facets of the Georgia team balled out, as expected. The defense held Vanderbilt to just 236 total yards. On the ground Chubb, Michel and Swift ran for 138, 150, and 32 yards respectively with three touchdowns.
What’s left? Technically the quarterback position. A dominant rushing attack plus a dominant defense leaves only a marginal burden on whomever ends up taking the snaps for Georgia the rest of the season. Jake Fromm has been solid in relief of injured Jacob Eason. He went 6-for-11 for 102 yards and two touchdowns on Saturday.
It’s worth nothing that Eason came in for relief duty in the fourth quarter and fumbled the ball back to Vanderbilt. The Dores would go on to score their second touchdown of the game as a result. Nevertheless, it’s safe to say the Georgia offense is quarterback proof, and that’s a good problem to have.
