USC football took a step forward with a 28-point win over the Oregon State Beavers to get back on track after the upset loss to Wazzu in Week 5.

USC football was more in need of a victory than almost any other team in the country. The Oregon State Beavers provided a great opportunity for that rebound win. This Oregon State squad is still in search for its first win over an FBS team in 2017.

Last week, USC was upset by the No. 11 Washington State Cougars behind a big performance from quarterback Luke Falk. The issues that star USC sophomore quarterback Sam Darnold is having is not only concerning in terms of USC’s PAC-12 and College Football Playoff hopes, it’s also a problem for his NFL Draft stock.

USC does not have anymore room for error after the loss to Wazzu. A one-loss USC team that wins out and ultimately wins the conference would likely be guaranteed for a berth in the Playoff. Many expected the Trojans to be in the Playoff field this year.

Oregon State has been an easy opponent for most PAC-12 teams this year. It was the same story against USC. We’ll see how much more time Gary Anderson gets in Corvallis, OR, if the Beavers keep losing in bunches.

Upcoming for USC is two very tough tests against two top 25 teams in Utah and Notre Dame. If USC can get through that without a loss, they have a real shot to run the table in the PAC-12 South. Utah and the UCLA Bruins will be the biggest challengers for USC in the division. Washington looks to run the table in the PAC-12 North.

Now, let’s take a look at three takeaways from USC’s win over the Oregon State Beavers in Week 6.
