Some blowouts and some interesting stat lines have emerged early on in Week 6 of college football. Here’s a quick first half update from Week 6.
The early slate of Week 6 games featured some incredible first half performances, including the Clemson offense getting on track, Northwestern finding a way to solve Saquon Barkley and Baker Mayfield picking apart Iowa State.
While several of the key matchups are set for this afternoon and later tonight, the noon kickoffs still provided some excitement right from the start. In fact, we even had an earlier-than-normal beginning to Week 6, as Tulane and Tulsa opened things up at 11 a.m. ET because of potential weather from Tropical Storm Nate.
And it would appear as if someone forgot to tell the Golden Hurricane. The Green Wave – yes, this is one of those random and highly-unlikely games pitting two team with unique nicknames – took a 48-7 lead into the intermission on the heels of three rushing touchdowns by Dontrell Hilliard.
Hilliard had 13 carries and racked up 112 yards, with quarterback Jonathan Banks adding 93 and a score on the ground to go with an 8-for-11 performance passing for 153 yards and a touchdown. Tulane finished the opening 30 minutes with 282 yards rushing and six scores.
Things were so bad for Tulsa that they pulled quarterback Chad President following a dismal 2 of 6 passing half with a pick and replaced him with Luke Skipper. The two battled neck-and-neck during the preseason before President emerged as the frontrunner.
Stopping teams has become an issue for the Golden Hurricane, as they have surrendered games of 59, 42 and 54 points already this year. It would appear as if Tulane is well on its way to eclipsing the 60-point mark.
Here are a few other early standouts from the opening block of games for Week 6:
