No. 20 Utah was an underdog at home against Stanford, despite entering the game as the only team in the Pac-12 South with an undefeated record. But despite being unranked, the Cardinal showed on Saturday why they were the favored team. Stanford  took a 13-10 lead into the locker room at halftime against the Utes, and should they win they will jump back into the AP Top 25 at No. 24.

Keller Chryst started once again for the Cardinal, but it was not the best of efforts. He was 6-of-11 at halftime for 104 yards, and Bryce Love added 66 yards on 11 carries to help Stanford squeak out a narrow first-half lead on the road.

Assuming that lead holds, Stanford will push back into in this week’s AP Top 25 as the Utes fall out. If they lose, though, expect Utah to hold position around No. 20. Should Kyle Whittingham’s team stay undefeated, it will have a chance to move two games clear atop the Pac-12 South with a trip to Los Angeles to face USC next weekend. But it is more likely that Stanford will open the door to challenge the Washington schools for the Pac-12 North.
