Michigan State football traveled to Ann Arbor in Week 6 and came away with a big upset win over No. 7 Michigan.

On Saturday night, Michigan State football traveled to Ann Arbor to take on in-state rival Michigan in a heated primetime matchup. Michigan came into the game undefeated and Michigan State was 3-1. This was a huge matchup for the rivals.

After watching the physical game, I’m giving you my three takeaways from Michigan State’s 14-10 upset win against Michigan.

3. Michigan still has shaky quarterback play

Against Purdue, starting quarterback Wilton Speight got hurt and John O’Korn has stepped in. Speight had been struggling during the beginning of the season with only one game with more than 200 yards passing. Many expected Speight to progress, not regress this season.

So, with O’Korn coming in some people had hope with how he played against Purdue, he tossed the rock for 270 yards on 18-for-26 passing, one touchdown and one interception.

O’Korn passed for 198 yards on 16-for-35 passing with three interceptions. His three picks were bad, most were over throws, and of those turnovers, the quarterback should’ve made a better decision. He does a good job buying time when the pocket breaks down, but when he throws he isn’t accurate like you would like.

I will say some of his receivers dropped a few balls and the rain didn’t help in the second half, but overall O’Korn looked shaky, at best.

Michigan has a great defense, but their quarterback play is going to hurt the Wolverines’ chances. They won’t go far until that position picks it up and soon because we are reaching the halfway point of the season and the book on Michigan is to stop the run and make the quarterback beat you. Win or lose, teams will use this recipe until Speight or O’Korn steps it up.
