Texas football pulled off a big win over Kansas State in Week 6. Here’s what we learned from the wild game.

So, what in the heck just happened. A crazy Big 12 day that started with Iowa State upsetting Oklahoma in Norman ends with a double-overtime victory by Texas over Kansas State. If you think that’s strange, you haven’t read the three takeaways from Texas’ big win over Kansas State.

3. Texas is the co-leader in the Big 12

So, after getting blown out by Maryland at home and losing a heartbreaker at USC, as Texas fans fall asleep and wake up on Sunday morning, the Longhorns are the co-leaders with TCU in the Big 12.

Yeah, I’m just as confused as you are.

What led to this moment starts in Norman, OK as Iowa State pulled off the biggest upset of the season (so far) as they beat Oklahoma. After that, the two leading conference teams going into the day went at it as TCU beat West Virginia. So the final Big 12 game of the night was going to determine who the co-leader in the conference would be in the showdown with Kansas State and Texas.

It took two overtimes but Texas defeated Kansas State 40-34 and now going into the Red River Showdown next Saturday, the Texas Longhorns take on a wounded Oklahoma squad. A Texas win over Oklahoma puts the Sooners’ Big 12 title hopes on life support and an Oklahoma win would align the stars correctly if you went by preseason polls.

The Big 12 race is muddled up now and will only continue to be muddled up. Take a look at the current standings, because by December it will be completely different.
