2. Bill Snyder might’ve just started a QB controversy

Bill Snyder is one of the game’s all-time great coaches but decisions that were made on Saturday need honesty. Substituting out an injured Jesse Ertz for Alex Delton and then going back to Ertz before the overtime and then going to Delton for overtime is a dangerous, dangerous move.

Ertz is known for his scrambling and open running style so those types of scrambles and hits that he takes are going to eventually end up taking a toll on the body. In the second half vs. Texas, Ertz’s reckless play finally cost him at least what seemed like a play or two as Delton took over.

What was thought to be a short rest turned into a lengthy break for Ertz as Delton dodged, ran and passed his way into the ballgame and maybe a much tougher decision at quarterback going forward.

While Ertz was out, Delton was 2-for-5 for 30 yards passing and then had 79 yards rushing and two touchdowns on just 12 running attempts. By those numbers, you’d think that Ertz would be the easy starter going forward but Snyder’s musical chairs under center in the fourth quarter and overtime makes things worse.

If Ertz struggles going forward, an already clamoring for Delton contingent is going to grow louder and have larger numbers. The pressure is now on Ertz to succeed. Things don’t get easier as Kansas State hosts the best defense in the conference next week, that being the TCU Horned Frogs.
