Washington Football: 3 takeaways from blowout win over California
By Zach Bigalke
While other top teams were upset this week, Washington football won big at home over Cal. Here are three takeaways from the Huskies’ #Pac12AfterDark victory.
Week 6 yielded some scares for top teams in the AP Top 25. Two top-10 teams were upset at home, as No. 3 Oklahoma fell to 31-point underdog Iowa State and No.7 Michigan tumbled in the Big House against rival Michigan State. With an improving Cal team in Seattle this weekend, No. 6 Washington did not fall into the same trap as their highly-ranked counterparts.
Instead, the Huskies romped to a 38-7 victory over the Golden Bears on Saturday night. Chris Petersen’s team kept pace with the other teams in the hunt for a College Football Playoff berth as they manhandled their divisional rival in #Pac12AfterDark action. California was unable to generate much offense as their only points came on a scoop-and-score by senior cornerback Darius Allensworth.
Now that Washington reached the halfway point of the season with a perfect 6-0 record, they will continue on into October with hopes of running the table. After making the playoff last season, the Huskies will be hungry to return.
Can they claim another Pac-12 title this season and convince the selection committee to pick them again? Here are three takeaways from the blowout at Husky Stadium in late-night Saturday action.
