Playing for his “former” coach

As it stands for the moment, the quarterback situation at Miami is in good hands. However, how could you think about passing up someone who you tried so hard to get at your former stop?

That would be the question presented to Hurricane head coach Mark Richt, who was at Georgia when Eason first decided to attend the school to continue his career.

Coming from Washington, Eason likely found Athens and Richt to be inviting, as that is a long way for a youngster to travel when there are plenty of reputable schools on the West Coast.

Richt has always had a tendency to earn top-notch recruiting classes, something that has carried over with him to Miami following his incredible run with the Bulldogs in the vaunted SEC.

There is also a very easy sell for Richt here, as he was fired from Georgia and – from the stand-point of a player – Eason was dealt the same fate with from the coaches.

Could “The QB Whisperer” get another?

Many believed that Jim Harbaugh would have no trouble finding, developing and putting out top-notch starting quarterbacks year after year after year when he decided to take the Michigan job.

That hasn’t exactly been the case so far.

Sure, the Wolverines signed Dylan McCaffery – the younger brother of former Stanford sensation Christian McCaffery – this past season, but the freshman isn’t ready for the rigors of the Big Ten just yet.

Instead, Wilton Speight and John O’Korn have handled the quarterback duties each of the past two seasons. And while they have been serviceable, they have been far from dominating enough to put Michigan over the edge.

Speight is currently sidelined and many believe his season is over. If that’s the case, O’Korn, a transfer himself from Houston, will handle the offense until Harbaugh decides enough is enough. Things got off to a rocky start for O’Korn this past weekend, as the Wolverines were upset by in-state rival Michigan State.

With Eason, Michigan would need to find a stop-gate for the 2018-19 season, as he’ll sit out. But that would leave him a clear path to secure the job in 2019 and run with it for Harbaugh.
