Washington football takes on the Arizona State Sun Devils as part of “Pac-12 After Dark” action at Sun Devil Stadium on Oct. 14.

No. 5 Washington football has established itself as the clear front-runner in the PAC-12 and a team that should return to the College Football Playoff this year. They took care of business against a solid team in the Cal Golden Bears in Week 6.

In Week 7 on Oct. 14, the Huskies have the third PAC-12 road game of the season against the Arizona State Sun Devils. No team has really come close to upsetting the Huskies through six games, but Arizona State is a dangerous team at home.

The last three opponents for ASU were either ranked at the time they played them or are ranked in the AP Top 25 now. They took down the Oregon Ducks two weeks ago, even though Oregon has had a rough going against tough competition in recent games.

The biggest problem for the Sun Devils is going to stem from the offense. ASU is not known for the defense they play and Washington can put up points in bunches. Junior quarterback Jake Browning is having a huge season. Browning has nearly 1,500 passing yards and 17 total touchdowns this season.

If ASU stays competitive on the scoreboard entering the fourth quarter, then they have an experienced quarterback in Manny Wilkins that could make things interesting. The problem with that is how good the Huskies have been in the second half of games.

Last week against Cal was the first time that the Huskies really put away a team in the first half. What turned out to be a 42-7 victory over the Oregon State Beavers on Oct. 1 was only a 7-0 lead at halftime.

It really depends which Washington offense shows up in the first half of the ASU contest. Keeping an underrated team like the Sun Devils around could cost the Huskies. They should be able to take care of business without a problem.
