To keep Baylor Football from staying winless much longer, it needs a big performance against the Oklahoma State Cowboys on Oct. 14.

Baylor football is having a rough go at things right now. Following three out of conference losses to the Liberty Flames (FCS), UTSA Roadrunners, and Duke Blue Devils, Baylor lost its first two Big 12 matchups. Those Big 12 losses came against two tough opponents in the Oklahoma Sooners and Kansas State Wildcats.

In Week 7, Baylor takes on another AP Top 25 team in the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Baylor is a 26-point underdog on the road, at Boone Pickens Stadium. Yet, if they lose to Oklahoma State, it would be the first loss for the Bears to the Pokes since 2013. Baylor has dominated this series over the past three seasons.

This is the first time that sophomore quarterback Zach Smith gets to play against the Oklahoma State defense. But he also gets to face a top tier quarterback in senior Mason Rudolph. Smith needs to replicate his magic he found against the Sooners where he threw for 463 yards and no interceptions.

It’s Homecoming weekend in Stillwater, Okla., and that could mean an even tougher challenge for Baylor. The stadium will be rocking as Oklahoma State fans are hungry for a win over the Bears. Last year, the Pokes defeated a then ranked top 10 team in the West Virginia Mountaineers in the Homecoming Game, 37-20.

The biggest task for head coach Matt Rhule and the Bears right now is to notch the first win of the season. Baylor has entered the fourth quarter of every game they’ve played in at least within one possession of the lead. It seems like only a matter of time before they get everything straightened out in the final quarter of a game.
