3. Nic Shimonek throws for 100 more yards than Will Grier

Texas Tech senior quarterback Nic Shimonek and sophomore West Virginia quarterback Will Grier have similar stat lines so far. Shimonek has completed 71.8 percent of his passes for 1,811 yards and 14 touchdowns with only three interceptions.

Meanwhile, Grier has thrown for 1,740 yards with 16 touchdowns and four interceptions. Grier has also rushed for another two touchdowns. Shimonek is a very efficient passes but Grier is better with his legs.

Neither of these two quarterbacks started in last year’s West Virginia-Texas Tech game. Skyler Howard and Patrick Mahomes are now both gone. Yet, each team has effectively replaced big losses behind center.

Both Grier and Shimonek are among the nation’s best in terms of passing stats. Each should have a big game considering the defensive struggles that both teams are known for in recent years. Although, Texas Tech’s defense is improved and West Virginia has an experienced secondary.
