Secondary – C

Now some bad news. WVU’s defense has been suspect at best through five games. They’ve allowed at least 30 points in their three games against Power 5 competition, including 34 to Kansas(!) in a back-and-forth win. These days, most teams are going to give up yards and points. The problem for WVU, particularly in the secondary, has been situational. They gave up backbreaking touchdowns late against both Virginia Tech and TCU. Stops in those spots would’ve gone a long way toward momentum that might have pushed them to wins. But they didn’t.

When taken at face value, the numbers aren’t bad.  WVU is only giving up 227 yards per game, and have five interceptions compared to only eight touchdowns given up.  Still, busted coverages at the worst possible times and other miscues have hurt.

Kyzir White and Dravon Askew-Henry have been the standouts. White leads the team with two interceptions and ranks third on the team with 23 total tackles.  Askew-Henry ranks second on the team with 24 tackles, and has one tackle for a loss to go along with one interception.
