Arkansas Football: Alabama mercilessly slaughters Hogs
2. Arkansas no longer belongs in the SEC middle class
Alabama is the cream of the crop. They’ve been the kings of the SEC West for what feels like forever and the rest of the division has just rotated through the bottom of the standings. As far as program prestige goes, the Razorbacks have been regarded in a more positive light than Ole Miss and Mississippi State. That’s no longer the case.
With Auburn’s upset loss at the hands of LSU the conference tiers have continued to gain a bit more clarity. Alabama and Georgia stand at the top of their respective divisions, most everybody else is somewhere in between those two giants and the dumpster. Then there’s the win-less programs. Tennessee, Missouri and Vanderbilt are a combined 0-10 in SEC play.
That’s who Arkansas is currently keeping company with right now. The Razorback brand might have value, but the team hasn’t done enough to prove they belong in the same conversation as Kentucky, Texas A&M and South Carolina. Those aren’t exactly SEC heavy weights, but they are head and shoulders over Arkansas right now.
It’s going to be a long season for Arkansas, which makes the final takeaway all that more painful for any Arkansas faithful that have weathered the downturn.
