Ole Miss football hosted Vanderbilt in Week 7 and came away with a convincing win over the Commodores.

Heading into a Week 7, not many people knew what to expect from Ole Miss football as the Rebels faced off against the Vanderbilt Commodores. Ole Miss looked solid all game long and came away with an impressive win, 57-35.

Shea Patterson had one of the best games of his young career and guess what? The Rebels actually got the run game going behind Jordan Wilkins. Shocker, right? Ole Miss is trending up after the big win, but will it be able to continue this against a suddenly-hot LSU team next week?

Here are three major takeaways from the Rebels’ big victory over the Commodores.

3. Jordan Wilkins might be the answer to backfield issues

Ole Miss hasn’t had an adequate rushing attack through the first five games, averaging just 76 yards per game on the ground. That low of a rushing total is almost laughable at the collegiate level, but that’s what happens when you miss out on recruits such as Cam Akers.

Just imagine a duo of Shea Patterson and Akers a year or two down the line. That’s a scary thought, but unfortunately for the rest of college football, it’ll be a duo of Deondre Francois and Akers which is a frightening vision.

Jordan Wilkins might be the answer to those issues and he’s proven that two games in a row.

In fact, the senior running back has rushed for 100 yards in two of his last three games. He finished with 113 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. He looks like the answer to the issues in the backfield and he could help lead this offense out of the proverbial gutter, in terms of rushing yards per game.
