Texas A&M Football: 3 takeaways from Aggies’ win over Florida
By Dana Becker
Texas A&M football overcame a hardly-seen call and the play of Feleipe Franks Saturday, claiming a 19-17 victory over Florida in “The Swamp.”
Down by one late in the fourth, the Aggies marched deep inside Gator territory before settling for a fourth Daniel LaCamera field goal to give them the lead. Tyrel Dodson picked off a Franks pass on the ensuing possession to give Texas A&M the road win.
Despite receiving just 40 yards total from running backs Keith Ford and Trayveon Williams, Kellen Mond proved his worth on this night. Mond matched Franks, throwing for 180 yards and running for a team-high 52 yards, including a touchdown.
Along with LaCamera, Texas A&M punter Shane Tripucka helped the Aggies win the special teams war, averaging 48.6 yards per punt on eight times, including a pair of kicks that landed inside the 20.
The most interesting play, though, wasn’t even a real play. In the first half, the Aggie defense made a stop on fourth-down inside their own red zone on the Gators. However, since Florida snapped and ran the play before the officials started the game clock, it was ruled a non-play and the ball was returned to Florida.
The Gators picked up the first down and eventually the score on a run by Lamical Perine, valuable points that ended up being the deciding factor between a win and a loss.
Here’s a quick look at three takeaways from the contest.
