Texas A&M Football: Officials give Florida extra down, Gators cash in
By Dana Becker
If Texas A&M football decides to go and fire Kevin Sumlin down the road, the Aggie head coach might have an issue with the officials in Saturday’s game vs. Florida.
Sumlin’s A&M defense appeared to make a huge fourth-down stand with just over two minutes left in the second quarter against the Gators and the ball sitting in the red zone, taking over with the score tied at 3-all and likely to stay that way heading into halftime.
However, officials explained that Florida would be given another down because they attempted the failed fourth-and-1 play before the game clock started, by rule making it a non-play and more or less a re-do.
The Gators converted for first down. A few plays later Lamical Perine darted free for a 15-yard score to give Florida a 10-3 lead.
Considering both Florida and Texas A&M are looking for some semblance of momentum in the SEC, this could turn into a very key play in very important seasons at both schools. Sumlin has already faced the pressures from the media and his own contingents after seeing a huge lead slip away vs. UCLA earlier this season.

Being behind in the second half, though, is nothing new for Texas A&M either. The Aggies have trailed in all seven games, but have come out the winner four times. That includes seven-point victories over both Arkansas and South Carolina before falling to top-ranked Alabama last week, 27-19 in College Station. The Aggie head man has enough on his plate without the other team getting handed a few extra points.
