Boise State football went to Qualcomm Stadium and toppled No. 19 San Diego State on Saturday night. Here are three takeaways from the game.

Coming into Saturday night’s game in San Diego, the fortunes of two of the Mountain West’s biggest teams were reversed. San Diego State looked like a New Year’s Six contender after going 6-0 through the first half of the season. Boise State had fallen to 3-2 after stumbling against Washington State and Virginia.

Both teams remain in the hunt for the Mountain West title, but now the league might just be eliminated from the Group of Five race. San Diego State is destined to fall out of this week’s AP Top 25 after stumbling in a 31-14 upset loss at home to the Broncos.

It was a sobering effort by the two-time defending conference champions. Through the first six games, the Aztecs had looked like world-beaters who would take down all challengers. Rocky Long’s team went 2-0 against the Pac-12, but they no longer sit among the dwindling ranks of unbeaten teams across the country.

What did we learn from Boise State’s big upset in southern California on Saturday night? Here are three takeaways from the Broncos beatdown of the Aztecs in one of the last games of Week 7.
