It might not have been the offensive explosion many were looking for, but South Florida football is 6-0 after out kicking the Bearcats on Saturday night.

USF kicked four field goals and scored just two offensive touchdowns. That alone speaks volumes about how well-rounded the Bulls are in 2017. It’s been a somewhat unimpressive campaign for senior quarterback Quinton Flowers, but despite his struggles, he’s captained the team to a perfect 6-0 record.

On Saturday against the Bearcats Flowers completed 16 of 29 passes for 184 yards and no touchdowns. He didn’t turn the ball over and did managed to get into the endzone once on the ground. He added 80 yards rushing and the score.

Senior running back Darius Tice and senior linebacker Auggie Sanchez were the two other players to find the endzone for South Florida. Other than that the offense was just effective enough to get within the ranger of kicker Emilio Nadelman. Another senior, Nadelman connected on field goals of 39, 28, 21 and 24-yards in addition to three extra points.

The sputtering offense was a concern, especially with the number of red zone trips that resulted in three points rather than seven. It didn’t come back to bite them against Cincinnati, but the Bearcats aren’t among the better teams in the American conference.

The South Florida offense has continued to be a work in progress all season, while the defense has been solid. This was by far their best performance of the season, coming so close to their first shutout victory since 2009 over Charleston Southern.

USF has New Year’s Six aspirations. If those dreams are to become a reality they have to keep winning. So far, they’re a perfect 6-0. Can’t be better than that. The road ahead has plenty of challenges, but the Bulls have proved they can mathcup with anyone.
