Washington Football: 3 takeaways from upset loss at Arizona State
By Zach Bigalke
There was one final top-10 upset in #Pac12AfterDark action. Here are three takeaways after No. 5 Washington fell hard into the trap at Arizona State.
When Saturday night began, it seemed like all the chaos had already transpired. No. 5 Washington was poised to stake its claim on a top-four position in the AP Top 25, as the Huskies went down to Tempe to face Arizona State on the road.
But the Huskies fell right into the trap, as Arizona State rendered a second major upset of a Top 25 team on its home turf. The Sun Devils not only took down the defending Pac-12 champions, they nuked the conference’s chances of landing a team in the College Football Playoff. The loss by Washington means that no undefeated teams remain in the league after the midway point of the year.
The playoff isn’t entirely out of reach, but now the Pac-12 no longer controls its own fate in the race. Washington still has as good a shot as ever to repeat as conference champs, but they probably won’t be in the semifinals again unless more chaos ensues in the coming weeks.
What did we learn as #Pac12AfterDark struck again at Sun Devil Stadium? Here are our three takeaways from the upset in Tempe as Washington became the fourth top-10 team to fall to an unranked opponent to close out Week 7.
