College Football 2017: 3 complete overreactions from Week 7 action
2. James Franklin to Texas A&M?
The fun in College Football is most of the time in the rumors you hear circulating around the game. One big rumor is that Kevin Sumlin would be let go and it’s only a matter of time.
But once you add that rumor with this one, it gets even better. Texas A&M is apparently interested in former Vanderbilt and current Penn State coach James Franklin.
This is laughable. Why would Franklin want to come back to the SEC? And if he came back to the SEC, why would it be to a division with Nick Saban and Alabama?
Franklin did well at Vandy going 24-15 in his three seasons. But last year, he had his first double-digit win season, won the Big Ten and earned a New Year’s Six bowl game appearance. This year, he is ranked No. 2 and has a Heisman hopeful at running back. He has given the people of Happy Valley a reason to be optimistic again.
There’s no way he leaves a place where he is currently a conference and national title contender to go back to mediocrity. Also, A&M is one of the most dysfunctional teams in nation, except Baylor obviously.
There’s no way if I was James Franklin that I would leave Penn State, and I think he has the same mindset.
