Louisville football fell for the second-straight week in ACC play, this time to the Boston College Golden Eagles, 45-42. The overreactions keep coming in.

The honeymoon stage looks to be over for the Louisville Cardinals this season, but all isn’t completely lost as they’re 4-3 and still in good shape to qualify for a quality bowl game.

Their ACC title hopes look to be dashed after their recent loss in Week 7. They allowed 45 points defense to a team that hadn’t scored since scoring 52 points in a 52-20 over the NC State Wolfpack back in 2009.

Head coach Bobby Petrino seems to have the team’s formula for success on offense, but on defense, it’s a different story. They seem to be transitioning with new defensive coordinator Peter Sirmon but the transition is trending in the wrong direction, or so it seems.

The Cardinals defense looked poor against a not-so-good Boston College offense. The Golden Eagles are averaging 20.4 points per game, 115th in the FBS. Not a good sign if you’re the Louisville Cardinals. Here’s a look at five overreactions from their Week 7 loss.

5. The Louisville Cardinals offense didn’t let the team down

The Louisville Cardinals offense wasn’t the problem in Week 7. Quarterback Lamar Jackson played stellar while looking visibly frustrated with the scoreboard.

The Cardinals trailed by 14 points twice in the second half but still managed to tie things up at 42-42 with 5:03 remaining in the game. Jackson finished the game 332 passing yards, 180 rushing yards, two passing touchdowns, three rushing touchdowns but also an interception in the game.

Jackson is still first in the ACC in passing touchdowns (16), first in rushing yards (690) but is also third in the conference in interceptions (5). Turnovers may be the only cause for concern but it was a fumble by wide receiver Jaylen Smith that gave the Boston College the ball late in the game to get the victory.

Outside of the two turnovers, without the points on offense, this could have gone very differently for the Louisville Cardinals. Granted, they still lost, but the offense has stepped up to keep them in games. Again, it’s the defense that’s been the sight for sore eyes.
