Washington Football: 5 overreactions from loss to Arizona State in Week 7
3. The Huskies’ defense isn’t as solid as it looks
One thing is for certain after Week 7: the Washington Huskies’ defense is not to blame for their loss to Arizona State. The Huskies defense was as formidable as ever despite allowing 13 points in the game.
The Huskies defense allowed 285 total yards of offense and held the Sun Devils to 5-of-18 on third down conversions. Their rushing defense came into game allowing 78.5 rushing yards per game. They allowed just 40 net rushing yards to running back Kalen Ballage and the Arizona State Sun Devils. Although Ballage did have a rushing touchdown in the game.
The Washington Huskies defense did have just two sacks in the game, but they did their job in the second half. They held Arizona State scoreless in the second half while forcing four punts and a missed field goal.
It was their offense that was unable to capitalize on much of anything in the game. The Huskies offense punted seven times in the game, compared to six times for Arizona State. There was a rare drought on offense so if you’re looking to place blame on the Huskies’ defense, you know where to look.
