It’s amazing what a run game will do for a football team. Ole Miss did it all on offense on Saturday. Passing game was great, ground game was great, blocking was great. And what do you know, the Rebels got a win. Shea Patterson was incredible, throwing for over 350 yards for four touchdowns and a rushing touchdown. Jordan Wilkins provided a spark on the ground to the tune of 113 yards. Wide receiver AJ Brown was his normal incredible self, with a 174 yard, two touchdown performance.

While the offense was incredible, the defense was no slouch. The landshark defense reemerged, somewhat to get 7 sacks, 2 fumbles and an interception in this game. All that being said, the defense still gave up 35 points. But it was a step in the right direction for this much maligned defense; and let’s be honest, you can give up 35 points when your offense can pretty much score at will. Ole Miss faces LSU next, a winnable game for the Rebels.

Mississippi State came off of their bye week and did exactly what they should’ve done, walk over BYU. The Bulldogs offense looked much better than the last time we saw it against Auburn. Although Nick Fitzgerald‘s two interceptions are a little worrisome. The star quarterback still had an excellent four score game.

The defense was dominate in this game, but they have been against non-conference opponents all season. Mississippi State is in good position to make a bowl game and be near the top of the conference but tough games remain, including next week against Kentucky. The Wildcats will present a good challenge for that defense to step up against conference competition.
