The Commodores slide continues as they lost their fourth straight game to Ole Miss on Saturday. Vanderbilt has had a rough SEC stretch but are still sitting at 3-4 headed into their bye week this week. It would be easy to say there’s no way for the Commodores to turn this around but there is. The loss to Ole Miss showed that Ralph Webb can still be dangerous. The defense and offensive lines are the weak points.

With the teams that Vanderbilt has left to face, the Dores can still make a bowl game. Kyle Shurmur did a heck of a job hanging in the pocket under duress on nearly every play for the majority of the game. The grit and determination are there for Vanderbilt. I think with their bye week they can correct what’s been going wrong for them and get back to winning games. For now however, they’ve found themselves back near the bottom of the barrel in the SEC.

There really isn’t much to say about the Volunteers other than they are in a literal sinking ship. There’s really no way to sugarcoat what has happened to Tennessee this season. One would think that with all of the talent that Butch Jones has been able to recruit to Knoxville, that this team should be better. At this point there’s no way that Butch Jones remains at Tennessee after this season ends.

The Vols went with Jarrett Guarantano at quarterback and while he showed flashes of talent, he and the offense just couldn’t get anything in the endzone to beat South Carolina. The Vols really look lost right now, and their matchup with Alabama next week looks grim at best. Tennessee might not even make a bowl game this season. A far cry from the expectations of just last season. Maybe this team can turn some things around before the end of the season but that might just be wishful thinking for UT fans.
