Louisville Football: 3 bold predictions vs. Florida State
By Dana Becker
The fab frosh RB
Florida State sure did hit the nail on the head when they landed Cam Akers. The freshman sensation has been a godsend at running back, rushing for a team-high 379 yards. Akers was splitting carries with Jacques Patrick, and while Patrick remains in the rotation, it is quite obvious Akers is RB1 right now.
In a 17-10 win over Duke last week, Akers carried the ball 15 times for 115 yards, scoring a touchdown. The week prior, in a touch 24-20 last-second loss to arch-rival Miami, he had 20 carries for 121 yards. Those numbers dwarf the first three games Akers played with the ‘Noles, as he had 30, 55 and 58 yards on 10, 12 and 14 attempts vs. Alabama, NC State and Wake Forest.
Akers has the big-play skills needed to help FSU find success on offense without Deondre Francois under center. He’s busted off a pair of 40-yard runs the last two weeks, showing flashes of recent Seminole standout Dalvin Cook to the nation.
Patrick will continue to help him shoulder the load, but when they need to produce, Florida State will look to the 213-pound freshman from Clinton, Mississippi.
