Logan Holgorsen, the son of West Virginia head football coach Dana Holgorsen, has verbally committed to North Texas, selecting the Mean Green over Bowling Green.
A member of the 2019 class, Logan Holgorsen is 6-foot-1 and will join several familiar faces in Denton, Texas when he steps foot on campus.
Seth Littrell, the head coach at North Texas, previously coached running backs with Dana Holgorsen when both were at Texas Tech. Also, the current offensive coordinator for the Mean Green is Graham Harrell, a former Red Raider standout quarterback who played for the elder Holgorsen in Lubbock.
“My knowledge of football is higher than most my age because I have been around it all my life,” Holgorsen told ESPN. “That’s why North Texas is such a good fit, because they run the offense I’ve grown up around. (My dad) has always been the guy to go to for those things. He’s taught me so much and helped me make that decision.”
It’s been an interesting road through high school for Holgorsen. As a sophomore, he threw for 1,355 yards with 14 touchdowns for Morgantown High before enrolling at St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, according to a report by the MetroNews. He later returned to Morgantown High and is 23-for-47 for 331 yards in four games this year.
“Coach Littrell and my father are really similar in my eyes,” Holgorsen said. “That is why they were so close at Texas Tech and still have a good relationship to this day. He told me Coach Littrell is one of the best ones out there, and so I took that and ran with it.”
The Mean Green have had a strong start to the Conference USA schedule, defeating UAB, Southern Miss and Texas-San Antonio. Overall, they are 4-2 and are at Florida Atlantic this Saturday.
